Thermal Physics Tutorial 5 - The Boltzmann Factor and Activation Processes

Home

In this tutorial we will look at the Boltzmann Factor.  This tells us the probability of an activation event happening.  In an activation event, a certain amount of energy is needed to get the process to start.

We will look at:

  • The Boltzmann factor itself;

  • Activation energy;

  • Creep;

  • Semi-conduction;

  • Thermionic emission.
